Urge Louisville to Protect Floyds Fork

The Issue

Metro Louisville has declared, “Floyds Fork watershed is a natural treasure.” And YET… Due to irresponsible developments, Floyds Fork is experiencing

  • rapid erosion,
  • exorbitant levels of chemicals,
  • wildlife-killing elements,
  • and at times unswimmable and unlivable muddied waters.

Which generation wants the responsibility for the death of Louisville Metro's last natural living waterway? Floyds Fork is an icon of Metro Louisville, and we will be the last to enjoy it if we do nothing.

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION urging Louisville Metro Council and Planning & Design Services to strengthen the Floyds Fork protections.

WE WANT

  • clean water
  • real green spaces
  • true wildlife habitats

NOT

  • more uncoordinated development
  • stormwater trenches
  • pollutants

Petition to Strengthen Protections for Floyds Fork:

1.     District Oversight Committee: Louisville Metro Council must create a Floyds Fork District Committee and a Director to oversee the entire Floyds Fork DRO District.

  • Committee shall consist of 9 members, including a Director, which will include at least 1 hydrologist, 1 environmental engineer, 1 planner, 1 developer, and 5 Floyds Fork watershed residents.

2.     Responsible Development: Louisville Metro Council must pass laws promoting responsible, sustainable development within this environmentally sensitive region updating the base zoning to no less than five acres per dwelling.

3.     Sustainability: Louisville Metro Council must adopt a new Conservation Form District that was established in the Plan 2040 for the entire length of Floyds Fork in Jefferson County.

4.     Floodplain Management: Louisville Metro Council must expand and strengthen the Land Development Code regarding the Floyds Fork Development Review Overlay and watershed based on the South Floyds Fork Area Study “Vision”.

5.     Clean Water Management: Louisville Metro Council must strengthen the Land Development Code regarding clean water management, eliminating existing pump stations, and prohibit future pump stations within the DRO.
