Help Granada Hills Charter Seniors Walk in Their Graduation!

Help Granada Hills Charter Seniors Walk in Their Graduation!
The Issue
Granada Hills Charter is stopping unvaccinated seniors from walking in their only graduation ceremony on June 2, and stopping the 8th graders from their middle-school ceremony on June 3. They’ve told them they can “drive around back” to pick up their diploma!
Yes, “unvaccinated” means unvaxxed with COVID-19 shots. And yes, they’re still doing that. Even when their fully vaxxed population keeps testing positive.
These are OUTDOOR ceremonies in John Elway Stadium, the open-air track and field stadium named for their most famous alum!
Out of a class of 1,100, GHC is denying the right to walk to 70 seniors!
Even worse: Granada is crushing a handful of 8 SPECIAL-NEEDS seniors.
❌ They’ve told them all: Sorry, you’re not welcome to be with us.
You can’t walk with your friends at graduation.
You can’t wave to your family as they proudly see you being honored for these four years of hard work, including an entire year of pandemic lockdown.
We’ll read your name during a broadcast *before* the actual, real graduation ceremony.
Oh, and you need to drive around back to pick up your diploma.
Why is GHC doing this?
Tell you why: In October 2021, after kids had come back to school after the pandemic, GHC dumped a vaccination policy on them. Take the shots or get off campus. Most everyone complied, but these families declined the shots. Post-COVID - medical exemption - personal beliefs - EUA status - everyone has reasons. And everyone’s reasons should be ENOUGH to decline an irreversible medical procedure with zero longterm safety data.
Some families had to give in. Some seniors took the jab just to stay on campus. Some seniors changed schools. (Can you imagine? You didn’t move, but you had to change high schools in senior year, second semester.)
But these 70 who hung on then endured a hellish semester. 100% computer "independent study" with third-party content. No live instruction. Ever try teaching yourself AP Chemistry? GHC pulled them out of the AP classes they had begun in fall, off their sports teams, away from friends and teachers, made them miss their senior prom.
The PTA refused to sell Grad Nite tickets to Disneyland to the unvaxxed seniors. Yet GradNite is off campus, after graduation, and Disney has no vax requirement either!
GHC slammed them with this oppression while their fully vaxxed classmates and teammates were allowed to get CV, recover at home, and return to school. Ah, Science.
No sugarcoating it: the spring semester was rough, even worse than pandemic lockdowns. These kids deserve a party no matter what happens on June 2!! If you'd like to support the celebration, GHC Parents United thanks you in advance. (We wish it were tax deductible but it's not.) https://givesendgo.com/GHCParentsUnited?utm_source=sharelink&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=GHCParentsUnited
WHY IS GRANADA CONTINUING TO CRUSH ITS SENIORS?
Why are they doubling down on their mandate of a shot that everyone knows doesn’t prevent infection or transmission?
Why are they crushing students who now are *literally* leaving the school, never to return?
Why are they doubling down on senseless cruelty to kids?
Why are they doing this if GHC boasts a 99% vaccination rate?
Why are they doing this for a ONE-HOUR ceremony?
Granada says: “OUR COMMUNITY ASKED FOR THIS.” Granada says YOU want this. Granada says they are protecting YOU.
Got that? Executive Director Brian Bauer, along with his 7-member Governing Board (with only 1 parent member), says that YOU THE COMMUNITY asked for a vaccination policy that would DENY GRADUATION to seniors, including special-needs seniors who’ve been with their friends and teachers on campus IN PERSON all year.
Bauer says YOU THE COMMUNITY must be shielded by the Zero-COVID bubble magically hovering in the skies over John Elway Stadium. Bauer says that “excluding unvaccinated students from campus reduces risk,” and that “allowing unvaccinated students to participate in site-based [activities] significantly increases the likelihood that the virus may spread throughout the GHC and greater Los Angeles community.” Bauer says he’s now segregating 70 graduating seniors to keep YOU safe, Greater Los Angeles Community!
ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO DISAGREE:
SIGN THIS PETITION and TELL THE GOVERNING BOARD THAT YOU DO NOT AGREE. You did not ask for this discrimination in your name. You did not ask for the sacrifice of this priceless and irreplaceable milestone for students finally ready to launch into adulthood. You want this avoidable injury to kids to stop.
Remember: there is NO California state, county, city, or school district rule requiring the jabs.
The Community did not ask for this.
The Community does not stand for this.
The Community does not support this senseless segregation and discrimination.
The Community demands that the Board immediately convene a special meeting to do the following:
- Allow all students to graduate together in person regardless of vaccination status
- Allow all students to attend: graduation practice May 31 & June 1, Senior Awards Night May 31, graduation June 2, 8th grade culmination June 3;
- Tell the GHCHS PTSA to secure GRAD NITE tickets for every senior who wants one, June 7 at Disneyland
- And by the way: Align with LAUSD’s May 10, 2022 vote to abandon its CV19 mandate, and align with the State’s timeline for adding the shot to the school schedule no earlier than July 2023
YOU ARE THE COMMUNITY.
Tell GHC to #ReadTheRoom and #LetThemGraduate, #WeStandTogether and #TogetherWeRise! #OneGoesWeAllGo
If you are of a mind to & able to, donations to our GiveSendGo in solidarity with these kids and families are gratefully accepted. Whatever happens on Wednesday, June 2, we will be throwing our kids the best grad party we can!!
Dear Community, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
*BTW, New West Charter over on Sawtelle in Los Angeles is doing This. Exact. Same. Thing.
Rinse & repeat.
