Help Give Caring Fathers a Chance

Help Give Caring Fathers a Chance
The Issue
I am reaching out to share my personal story and rally support to change a heart-wrenching system that separates parents from their children. I have two daughters, and like many fathers, I have fought hard to be an integral part of their lives, striving to be the father I never had. Unfortunately, despite my relentless efforts, I have been denied the opportunity to watch them grow and provide the support and love they deserve due to California allowing custodial parents to leave the state without the non-custodial parent's consent.
Many parents, like me, face the heartbreaking situation where their children are moved to entirely different states, making regular visitation nearly impossible. This can often feel like an insurmountable barrier; despite one's willingness to be actively involved in their children's lives. Such relocations disrupt the children's stability and well-being, as they are torn away from familiar environments, friends, and family members.
Significant statistics reveal that non-custodial parents, often fathers, struggle deeply with the emotional and financial ramifications of such relocations. The American Psychological Association highlights that consistent parental involvement is crucial for a child's emotional and educational development. Yet, current laws ignore this essential need, emphasizing financial support over familial connections. The strain of child support obligations on a non-custodial parent, coupled with the loss of a meaningful relationship with their children, can lead to immense personal and financial distress.
It's crucial to implement measures where both parents must consent before a custodial parent can move their child out-of-state. This not only preserves the child's relationship with both parents but also ensures that children maintain stability in their lives. By requiring mutual consent, the focus is shifted back to the child's best interest, promoting their emotional and psychological health.
Join me in urging lawmakers to revise this unjust protocol that allows custodial parents to unilaterally relocate their children, often to the great detriment of fundamental parental bonds. Every child deserves the nurturing presence of both parents in their lives. Sign this petition today to advocate for a fairer approach that respects the rights and responsibilities of both parents."
