Meeting next Tuesday at Harlow civic centre 7pm August 4th

Essex Highways and Essex CC have been invited to a meeting by Cllr Nicola Purse next Tuesday in Harlow which residents can attend and ask questions.

Dear Councillor,

I am writing to formally invite you to attend a Public Road Safety and Highways Meeting to discuss the growing concerns surrounding road safety across Harlow, with particular focus on Potter Street, Church Langley, and other locations where serious collisions, ongoing speeding concerns, and wider highway issues continue to affect our residents.

Venue: Council Chamber, Civic Centre, Harlow
This meeting has been arranged following a number of serious road traffic incidents and the increasing concerns being raised by residents regarding excessive speeding, road safety, and the perceived lack of progress in delivering meaningful highway improvements.

In addition to speeding, residents continue to raise concerns about the general condition of our highway network, including deteriorating road surfaces, potholes, defects, maintenance standards, delayed repairs, overgrown vegetation affecting visibility, and other highway safety issues. These matters collectively impact the safety of motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and vulnerable road users across Harlow.

The meeting will be open to the public, and residents from across Harlow will be in attendance to share their experiences, raise concerns, and hear directly from those responsible for our highway network. It is therefore an important opportunity for Essex County Council to engage openly with the communities it serves.

As the Highway Authority, Essex County Council plays a vital role in ensuring our roads are safe and properly maintained. Residents are increasingly seeking reassurance that their concerns are being heard and that practical action will be taken to address speeding, improve highway maintenance, and reduce the risk of further serious incidents.

Many residents feel that their concerns have not received the level of engagement or response they would reasonably expect, and this meeting provides an opportunity to rebuild confidence through open and constructive dialogue.

I would therefore be grateful if you could attend this meeting to listen to residents, contribute to the discussion, and outline how Essex County Council intends to work collaboratively with Harlow Council and the local community to improve road safety and the condition of our highways.

Given the significant public interest, members of the media have also been invited to attend to ensure the discussion is transparent and that residents are kept informed.
