Joe Dasovich’s response

As Sheriff of Itasca County, I want to speak directly to our community about the tragic loss of a young life. My heart goes out to the family and loved ones who are grieving. No parent, no family should ever have to endure that kind of pain. It’s a tragedy—plain and simple.

I’ve seen the Change.org petition and understand the concerns being raised. Please know that my office is committed to a full, thorough, and fact-based investigation. We owe that to the truth, to justice, and to everyone involved.

At the same time, we must allow the legal process to work. The court system exists to find truth through evidence, not emotion. Justice cannot and should not be decided on social media. It must be done the right way—fairly, honestly, and according to the law.

I ask for your continued patience and trust as we move forward. My duty—as your sheriff—is to ensure that justice is pursued with integrity, not influenced by pressure, but grounded in facts.

Let’s continue to support one another and honor the young man who was lost by seeking justice the right way.
