We wanted to update you, our supporters, on this campaign and our progress so far. We are closing in on 10,000 signatures and need your help to once again share this petition with everyone you can. Our plan, once we reach 10,000, is to directly address the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries... bringing their attention to the fact that we are still seeking answers regarding the decision to end Freya's life... and their agreement to forming (and complying with) new legislation to protect animals like her in the future.
Rest assured, Freya's death has not been forgotten, often in the drift of time it takes to build momentum regarding a campaign like this, it can feel like the moment has passed. The loss of Freya has never been more relevant as our climate continues to show evidence of warming and our collective need to learn how to accommodate displaced wildlife will only increase in the future.
Our open letter has gained support from more organisations.
The dodo recently posted a video about Wally the Walrus briefly mentioning Freya as a contrasting case... soon their sponsor's exclusivity on this video will come to an end and they will be able to repost with this petition link. Adding our petition link will, we hope, move this video from entertainment to activism prompting viewers to support our aims. In the meantime if you view the video, please do post this petition link in the comments thread to spread the word. We value your ongoing support and will keep you updated.
