After contacting the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to report what I’ve been living through in Southern Housing’s “supported accommodation,” I was shocked by their response — and I think you will be too. (Screenshots attached.)
They told me that Southern Housing isn’t providing a “regulated activity” under their remit, so they can’t investigate or intervene. That means despite being registered with the CQC, Southern Housing is essentially untouchable because they’re not delivering personal care or treatment that would legally fall under the regulations.
So who holds them accountable when vulnerable people — including children — are living in homes full of mould, vermin, no heating, and no support?
No one.
This is the system we live in. Southern Housing can claim government funding, advertise their services as “supported,” and yet not be held to any proper care standards. They’re protected by technicalities while we suffer.
Please help me highlight this disgrace.
