This morning, I received a message from a young woman in Russia. She offered the only thing she had: a room in her apartment and a warm heart, for one or two of the Afghan women if all else failed. “I won’t take any money,” she wrote. “I just don’t know how else I can help.”
This simple, generous act says everything. We may not have power. But we have each other.
And right now, together, we are moving mountains.
Because of the 50,000+ people who signed the petition, a wave of action has been set in motion. And I want to give thanks to the incredible people stepping in from all corners of the world:
Liliana, Miguel, and Bia from Avaaz – You didn’t hesitate. You opened doors, activated diplomatic connections, and reached out to Panahgah when we couldn't get through. You believed this could still be turned around.
Sindy and Sofia from Panahgah – Thank you for receiving our call with open minds and hearts. You're helping create a channel for safety and hope when we feared all options were closed.
Erica, a powerful Russian-speaking influencer – You gave our petition wings. Your courage and reach brought tens of thousands of new signatures and messages of support pouring in.
Tatyana, a human rights lawyer in exile – You are offering to take one of these women’s cases to the European Court of Human Rights, pro bono, to try and stop deportation through legal protection.
And to the core team working around the clock, balancing day jobs and sleepless nights to make this happen:
Ahmad Reshad Attai (Food for Thought Afghanistan) – For protecting the vision and holding the thread to justice in Afghanistan.
Rebecca Trotter (Food for Thought Afghanistan)– For tireless strategy, support, and coordination.
Suzana Dabess (Udhara.br.com)– For lighting the path to Brazil and never giving up, even when silence followed.
Maria Noori (Afghanistan Women's Light of Freedom Movement)– For giving voice to the voiceless, again and again, and organising the group.
Jahanzeb Wesa (Afghanistan Women's Light of Freedom Movement) – For your support, responsiveness in organising documents and communication, and steadfast presence.
Frank Eggink – For showing up again and again with love, vision, and quiet strength.
But more than anyone, this is about the women and women's right defenders.
The women who dared to protest, who were beaten, imprisoned, raped, and hunted for standing up.
The women who are still organizing in secret.
The women who hold each other and remind each other what dignity means.
They are tired. Some are sick. All are scared.
But they are also brave. And they are not giving up.
Time is of the essence.
We are still racing against the March 31 deadline in Pakistan. Anyone who can help us buy more time—diplomatically, legally, logistically—please write to us at sendlove at heartwork dot earth
This is the best birthday gift I could ever receive:
Human connection. Compassion. Courage. Unity.
Across countries, languages, time zones, and beliefs—this is what world peace looks like.
With all my heart,
Nadja
