Petition updatePremier: Please Save Bushland in Shenton Park, WAMassive jarrah felled on rehab hospital site! But still a chance to save bushland...

A magnificent jarrah was felled just before Christmas as LandCorp "prepares" the eastern side of the Shenton Park rehab hospital site for development. Outrageous!
There are very few jarrahs remaining in the Western Suburbs. And this one looks like it may have had hollows.
Why isn't our gov't protecting the last remaining native trees? There is plenty of space to develop on this site AND keep the trees! A key reason for wanting to clear and develop on the bushland is to meet (arbitrary) housing density targets! Targets that could be met simply with better planning. There is over 11 hectares to develop, without touching the bushland. How greedy can you get?
We are still awaiting the decision by the state gov't on whether they will grant a clearing permit to clear over half of "Lemnos St Bush" on the western part of the site. This beautiful banksia woodland, connecting Underwood Bush to Shenton Park Bushland, should be protected and enhanced for future generations.
If the clearing permit is approved, there should be a 21 day appeal period where you can voice your concerns to the Minister of Environment.
Please keep up the fight and get more of your friends to sign this petition. Keep calling your MLA and the Minister for Planning. They must be held accountable.
I'll keep you posted.......
