A letter from Premier Mark McGowan has kicked off an urgent campaign “BUSH NOT BRICKS” to save Lemnos Street Bush in Shenton Park. Only people power can save our green space now. Please join our campaign on facebook and let everyone know. We will not give up! The news was unexpected: the Premier has refused to overturn an atrocious Barnett Government plan which calls for over half of the remaining bush on the hospital redevelopment site to be cleared. I had high hopes for a good outcome given Labor’s platform that “native vegetation protection is a prime responsibility of government; our urban bushland must be conserved and protected….” But the Premier has let us down. He has supported a devastating plan which ignores community wishes, the scientific experts and key State Planning Policies. And what’s worse? The State Government has refused to explain why they can’t save the bush. And they certainly won’t tell us why they have deviated from State Planning Policy 2.8 which requires decision makers to “proactively seek to safeguard, enhance and establish ecological linkages between Bush Forever areas”. So after months of asking, we have launched a parliamentary petition to demand answers! We must collect a huge amount of signatures! We must save Lemnos St. Bush! How you can help: • Sign the parliamentary petition and help collect signatures.
