Hedgewood School Urgent Update on School Water Supply & Call for Support
The Issue
As parents, we need to be aware of the ongoing serious issues regarding the school’s water supply, which recently forced an emergency closure. While the school staff have worked tirelessly to manage this, the root cause lies with the Local Authority (Hillingdon Council) and their refusal to approve a permanent solution.
The school is currently operating on a patched-up system that is vulnerable to breaking again. We need to support our school leadership by applying pressure on the Council to fix this properly, rather than relying on temporary repairs that put our children's education at risk.
Key Facts of the Situation:
A History of Temporary Fixes: The original leak in June 2022 was only ever given a "temporary" repair by the Council, which reduced water pressure. Despite promises, Hillingdon Council never returned to complete the permanent fix.
Expert Advice Ignored: Following the major leak on January 12th, experts from Affinity Water strongly recommended a full replacement of the pipework (from Weymouth Road to the boiler). This would come with a 99-year warranty.
Risk of Future Closures: Without a full pipe replacement, we face a high risk of further burst pipes and more unexpected school closures in the future.
How You Can Help:
Please join us in supporting the school by raising a formal grievance with Hillingdon Council. We need to collectively ask the Local Authority one simple question:
"When will the full replacement of the pipes happen to ensure that another school closure does not happen in the future?"
By voicing our concern, we can help ensure our school gets the safe, reliable infrastructure our children deserve.
