💔 Honey Died. Now It's Time to Protect Our Hedgehogs.

The heartbreaking death of Honey, the hedgehog found deliberately painted blue and yellow in Leeds, has shocked people across the UK. Despite the extraordinary efforts of the team at Prickly Pigs Hedgehog Rescue, Honey sadly died from the horrific injuries and stress caused by this cruel act.

This wasn't just an attack on one hedgehog. It is a stark reminder that one of Britain's best-loved wild mammals remains vulnerable to needless human cruelty, while its population continues to decline because of habitat loss, road deaths and other human pressures.

Honey deserved better. So do the millions of hedgehogs still struggling to survive in our towns and countryside.

That is why I am calling on the UK Government to give the hedgehog full protection under Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act. Stronger legal protection would send a clear message that these iconic animals matter and deserve greater safeguarding.
