Another wildlife crime, another indescribably painful death for an iconic species in serious decline https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/24198833.hedgehog-dies-set-fire-westhoughton/ When will the intentional killing of hedgehogs end ?
I hope the RSPCA will issue an appeal soon but seldom does the person/s responsible for these vile acts get caught. Remember the hedgehog in my former home, Holt, tortured & mutilated in July 2023 ? https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/23823888.rspca-hedgehog-investigation-closed-no-leads-found/ Case closed without any leads and the perpetrators still walking among us.
Life is hard enough for hedgehogs without the threat of intentional injury or death. Habitat loss is accelerating throughout the UK with fragmentation of foraging grounds, and increased barriers to movement are all detrimental to hedgehog populations. This is the reason I have launched a second petition https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/658072
Please have a look. Launched less than 2 weeks ago, my petition to make hedgehog surveys and mitigation measures compulsory for all new developments now has almost 6000 signatures. If we can reach 10,000 supporters the government is legally required to respond.
Thank you once again for your attention and support.
