The Issue

Dear Soyoung Lee and the members of the Asian Art Museum Executive Team,

The museum is proposing to introduce a health care plan with tripled copays and crippling out-of-pocket maximums.  The AAM staff, who work so hard to further the mission of the museum, cannot afford these higher costs, which are in effect a wage cut.

Though we understand we may have to change health care plans, we appeal to you to offer your staff a package that is affordable, especially for those among us who may need more than simple routine checkups.  Doing so would cost the Foundation a very small percentage of its yearly budget. Most importantly, it would show staff they are valued, bolster staff retention, and make open positions more attractive to new applicants.

Ultimately, this is about the health of the museum.  For many of us, this work is truly a labor of love, and we willingly accept lower compensation than we might receive in the private sector because we believe in the museum and its mission. The Asian Art Museum's success depends on its dedicated staff. As such, supporting employees and their families is an investment in the museum's future.

Signed,

The AAM Foundation Staff and Community Supporters
