It's always been an honour to me to help Ann Reeves and her wonderful family. I have known them for many years now. They all fought admirably against the British medical establishment that sought to protect a doctor - who prescribed high doses of palliative care drugs to patients who were not dying. The inquiry report is here https://www.gosportpanel.independent.gov.uk During the time of NHS Exposed ( the website we retired), elements of this case was exposed online. Indeed, many years later, the UK media has finally done justice to the Gosport Inquiry having waited in the sidelines for years. Dr Liz Miller and I investigation the nexus between the doctor prosecuted by the GMC ( Dr Jane Barton ) and Professor Christopher Bulstrode who was the GMC Council member. We uncovered the evidence that they were brother and sister. The GMC did it's best to conceal it. As everyone is aware, Barton wasn't struck off. Instead a situation was created so she could jump off the register instead. While numerous whistleblowers are not given a large pension. Barton has been given a hefty pension. Oxford graduate Barton had the most lenient treatment known in the history of the GMC. It is notable that civil servants attempted to cover up the scandal. Such is the shoddy education of the elite of this country ( see https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/gosport-hospital-deaths-scandal-covered-12775655) It is interesting to note that while the GMC and DH were busy covering up Gosport, they were busy defaming me by casting aspersions on my mental health. I was ofcourse the first junior doctor to raise the alarm of inappropriate use of palliative care drugs in patients who were not " dying". This was done in an article called Elderly Helped to Die 2nd April 2000 Sunday Times. As the GMC is aware, I requested a urgent review of the practice. The GMC subsequently with the help of the Department of Health continued a process of discrediting me. This led to Pal v GMC during the years Gosport was shut down. The great UK media didn't feature it but one journalist by the name of Tom Wells wrote this article on it https://www.scribd.com/document/225942200/Dr-Rita-Pal-v-General-Medical-Council-The-Only-Media-Feature-by-Sunday-Mercury . So one can put the pieces together and see how the entire establishment shut down patient relatives and doctors. My submission to the then CHRE can be downloaded here from the inquiry website. https://www.gosportpanel.independent.gov.uk/document-library/documents/DOH015089/ so the public can place the history in context. One must remember, the problem isn't isolated to Gosport. The LCP Review as well as the Department of Health have refused to look into the serious aspects of patient safety. There must be safeguards and one cannot simply rely on subjective assumptions of what constitutes " dying". It's clear this is not good enough. https://www.scribd.com/document/231458883/Liverpool-Care-Pathway-review-response-to-recommendations-Comments-by-Dr-Rita-Pal The inquiry makes a number of recommendations and it's vital that the family have access to legal representation. A fund raiser has been set up so please donate to it here https://www.gofundme.com/justice-for-the-victims-of-gosport The medical profession should support justice in the Gosport Inquiry but I doubt they will. There maybe placatory reviews in the BMJ but no actual action. It must be remembered that due to the elite medical profession's own lax arrogant attitude to patient safety in relation to issues raised in this inquiry, unsafe doctors are allowed to undermine patient safety and the work of good doctors. This conceited culture of sheer arrogance has continued for centuries. I think Ann Reeves and her family have worked above and beyond the call of duty to see that justice is done in the interest of public safety. While the vast majority of England is busy getting excited about football, this family has worked hard to ensure the focus is saving patients who are not dying. You only realise how important this battle is when your own relative is in hospital being shoved on the Liverpool Care Pathway without consulting you or assessing their quality of life.
