This is an amusing piece from the Daily Wail. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3386666/The-anti-Government-medics-doctors-strike-said-Tory-lies-shame-Goebbels-backed-Jeremy-Corbyn-make-Britain-great-again.html . The Daily Wail is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea with their spin. Its probably because they don't quite understand why doctors are pissed off. Thats the colloquial term for abusing the good faith of doctors and pushing them over their limits. Their article swerves from one side to another not knowing what they need to write. They are desperate enough to pull out a few irrelevant patient campaigners to bleat about patient safety. Lets make it clear, patient safety is the DH responsibility.
Khalash Chand of the BMA and I once had a skirmish on Twitter. He kept asking me to get into the BMA tent. To be honest, I don't like the BMA. They have already shown themselves to swing from one decision to another even in the junior doctors strike. This pendulum behaviour doesn't do anyone any good.
Seriously, BMA, quit being a wimp and press releasing and just go on strike as if you mean it. If the BMA had real guts, they would ask all their doctors to cease paying the GMC's subscription funds. That would put the GMC in the dock and they may even stop behaving like Jeremy Hunt's pink bowed lap dog. The GMC needs to have a rolled up newspaper over its snout everytime it misbehaves. They should keep their mouth shut in these strikes and concentrate on regulating bad doctors who kill patients.
Anyway, Chand is currently infamous for his rebellious stance. No doubt he went down to Gupta's sweet centre in Drummond Street London and got himself a bag of samosas before he made those rebellious comments.
Credit to him for finally being even more radical than I have ever been. Now the Daily Mail is printing pictures of all the leading minds of the junior doctor strikes so the public demonise them. It won't work of course because quite frankly the Daily Wail have the brain power that is less than that of a small amoeba. Their so called exposures of rebel doctors by spying on their Facebook discussions in the past was just below the belt. Its a sign of pure desperation on the part of the DH press office which no doubt is in contact with the Daily Wail's editors and journalists. One can imagine the DH press office wailing away like screeching spoilt children throwing their toys and cheque books out of the pram.
Anyway, I hope the junior doctors don't back out last minute once Hunt starts to threaten them via the GMC again. I think if you make your path, stick by it and keep the pressure up. They need to walk the talk not talk the walk. Secondly. they all need to ignore the media and play Hunt at their own game of chess. Tactically, they need to make moves without bleating it out to the media.
If the media are being unfair to striking doctors, report them to the https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/ and the police. If I was running the strike action, I wouldn't have given Hunt time to think, I would have moved fast so the DH has no time to plan or plot. Then I guess, I have been fighting too many mean lawyers for too many years.
This has been an anti-government personal opinion. Let the DH remember that I was the first whistleblower to warn them the NHS was in crisis in 1998 and the dire situation for junior doctors. They will also remember they had to get the police around to my single handed protest by the DH in 2000. Moreover, they will recall, they were forced to run around the media to shut down the features of the protest after Sky News featured it.
All that is happening now is because they didn't listen, they didn't act and now they are in deep ***** [ fill in appropriate expletive]. The current situation is a progressive deterioration in the situation of junior doctors over many years. It has deteriorated now to such an extent that Hunt believes he can do what he wants when he wants. Of course, he can't and I think the junior doctors of today are likely to create worse times for him than seen in the times of his cousin Virginia Bottomley. We live in troubled times. Hunt though can rely on his family contacts to get him out of this tight spot. Whether he will or not is the big question.
