I knew the petition would likely have good support, but I stand amazed at how quickly so many of you have signed! Over 1,500 signatures in approximately twenty-four hours is absolutely astounding! Kristy and Lily-Grace are so thankful for the love and support you all have shown and continue to show. Breaking barriers is not easy. Lily-Grace asks about her friends daily and is so eager to be back at school. Lily-Grace's story has caught the attention of Daniel Kish, who has been called the real "Batman" for his ability to use ecolocation in navigating along with his trusty white cane, and Michael Hingson, who successfully escaped from the collapse of the North tower of the World Trade Center on 9/11 with his now late dog guide, Roselle. This is the kind of potential Lily-Grace and hundreds of other children with blindness have, but it will only thrive and come to fruition if they are given the chance for it to. When I found out Lily-Grace was tripped by another innocent child who was carrying out the directive of an adult who should have known better... who at the very least should have just walked away and minded their own affairs. it was such a low moment for me. It was as if it had happened to my own child. I don't have children, but I love the kids that I teach and the families that I interact with regularly as if they were my own. The outpouring of support you have shown has restored my faith in humanity. Diversity and flexibility are truly at the heart of the human condition.
