The past few decades have seen a shift in music like every kind of art movement. However music has a special place in the media with the levels it has to unpack; the mixing, singing, producing skills, writing skills it goes towards creating a song and albums. With that being said, with websites such as Genius and other online platforms it has made it easier to share opinions on music and analyze the meanings behind the lyrics on songs, so why not bring it to high school English classes? The tedium shown within these classes are very common among students due to the lack of interest it takes to do assignments. So I believe having English classes having at most, a unit to analyze the lyrics of artists, it can help with the engagement with the topic along with strengthening the topics learned about the class such as literary devices.
