It's been 6 days since our last update and we've been so busy we've not had chance to write! Too much to write for just one update today but we wanted to tell you about yesterday's success story. Many of you will remember reading about Zack's unfortunate and frustrating experience at Chorley Hospital nearly 3 weeks ago. At the time we made a complaint and spoke to the Customer Care department. Our account of the experience written in an update on this site resulted in literally hundreds of responses from you, our supporters. Well, yesterday we received a twitter alert saying that the hospital trust were following us ... and what came next was this message from the hospital: "Hi Zack, We are sorry and dismayed to hear about your difficult experience. It is completely unacceptable that the toilet was locked with the location of the key being apparently unknown. We have looked into what was happening. We have now increased the number of Radar keys available. We have also made all our staff aware of the keys and the facilities. We have also put a message on our website. Again, apologies for your experience, it's clear we had improvements to make." It was so refreshing and encouraging to receive this reply, with the hospital admitting fault rather than trying to blame someone or something else for the problem. Their website now carries this message about the changes made in response to our experience: https://www.lancsteachinghospitals.nhs.uk/latest-news/changing-places-facilities-3192 Furthermore, they advised that: "We have also put more detailed information on our Staff Intranet so everyone can see what the process and where a key can be obtained." which is exactly what we suggested. Zack then asked if they would be able to send the link about his campaign petition to all their staff, which they agreed to do. They have also shared his campaign on their Twitter feed and this has already been liked and retweeted by the Chief Executive. So we think that's counts as a success! Thanks Chorley Hospital. If you know that your local hospital doesn't have a Changing Place, or as in this case, has one which is inaccessible for whatever reason, then please let us know and we'll do our best to convince them of the need by telling them our story. We were in Chorley once again yesterday evening, not needing a loo this time, but back at Derian House for another hydrotherapy session. It's always great talking to the many staff there who know Zack well and who are all so supportive and encouraging about his campaign. As soon as anyone approaches the welcome desk there's a poster right in front if them advertising the campaign petition! Thanks again Derian House! As a result of the support from one of the staff members, news of Zack was passed on to a Consultant Occupational Therapist. She has contacted Zack this morning to invite him to give a presentation at a conference event early in November for Occupational Therapists and Psychologists! Talking to a room full of medical professionals will be a little different to addressing a group of college students, but Zack is up for the challenge! Thanks again for your continued support and encouragement. If you are a Twitter follower, please pass on your thanks and appreciation to Chorley Hospital @LancsHospitals. More soon. Team Zack!
