Happy New Year friend!
Thank you for your ongoing support of our campaign to see CKE Restaurants (Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr.) adopt an animal welfare policy to address the egregious animal abuse in its chicken supply chain. Lately, we’ve been urging investors of CKE’s major shareholder, Roark Capital, to divest from Roark and send a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated! The University of Michigan, and William and Mary, are among those that currently invest in Roark Capital.
By continuing to invest in Roark, the University of Michigan and William and Mary are profiting from animal cruelty no university should support. Please take the following actions to urge these universities to divest from Roark and CKE’s animal abuse!
1) Comment on the College of William and Mary’s Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/williamandmary
Choose from the options below, or write your own comment on one of their latest posts.
Option #1: It's upsetting to learn that Roark Capital Group, a company William and Mary invests in, is involved in an animal cruelty scandal. Please urge Roark Capital to address this issue, or reconsider your investment with them. www.roarkcapitalcruelty.com
Option #2: William and Mary, please be a leader for animals and urge Roark Capital to make a public commitment ensuring that all the companies it invests in have comprehensive animal welfare standards. https://www.change.org/p/roark-capital-group-roark-do-the-right-thing-for-animals
Option #3: William and Mary, please do the right thing for animals and divest from Roark Capital! www.roarkcapitalcruelty.com
Option #4: Roark Capital Group, a company that William and Mary invests in, has failed to ensure that the food serving companies it invests in have adequate animal welfare standards. Is this really the type of company that William and Mary wants to be investing in?
2) Call the University of Michigan Endowment Fund office.
Call: 734-763-4163
Say, something like: (please leave a message if no one answers)
Option #1: I’m calling to find out if U of M is going to respond to concerns about its investment in Roark Capital Group? It’s really disappointing that the university has remained silent when over 119,000 people have signed a student’s petition urging action on the issue. Please visit www.UMichDivestFromCruelty.com to learn more.
Option #2: When will the University of Michigan listen to the concerns of its students and the general public that are urging U of M to cut ties with Roark Capital Group? Please send a clear message that animal abuse will not be supported by the university, and divest from Roark immediately!
Thank you for speaking up for animals!
