● Two more festival weekends are planned on Aug 6th/7th + 13th/14th

● This time in Finsbury Park alongside the New River nearest to Endymion Road

● This is another significant area of our park walled off for a noisy commercial event

● The same area that had to be reseeded last year due to about 10 acres of grass being transformed into a mud bath

This northern part of the park is the richest area for biodiversity and has the oldest trees in the park. And it is still green. Yet again we see diesel generators and large lorries adding fumes in an ecologically sensitive area in a low diesel emission zone.

We continue to oppose the takeover of this park for mega music festivals. Last month the park lost a huge acreage of grass when 45,000 people per day came for six days. It is not just due to the drought that it is now so worn away. It will have to be reseeded later this year as so much of the grassy areas have deteriorated so badly.

The Council needs to end this annual cycle of damaging festivals in our park. They should regard their role as being custodians of a unique asset for our local community rather than a commercial opportunity. As global warming puts increasing stress on our natural environments, it needs careful protection rather than wilful harm
