When our regulator consistently shows failings and lacks transparency over why those failings our occurring, the suggestion of raising fees in order to address the issues, may seem to some as abhorrent.

If there was greater confidence in our regulator there may be more support 

Currently HUGE funds are put to fund external law firms, who still don't assure good quality investigations and timely conclusions of cases. They fund external consultancy firms to manage the PR around the current failings and as registrants who pay for this we have no say in whether we agree to this spend.
