The Issue

Living in Hancock County, Georgia comes with its unique set of challenges, especially for our elderly and low-income populations. We have the highest poverty rate in the state, and access to affordable and healthy food options is a daily struggle for many residents. Transportation is another significant hurdle for those without personal vehicles, leaving them reliant on nearby stores for their grocery needs.

Currently, our two local Dollar General stores are inadequate in meeting the community's essential health and nutrition requirements. They not only fail to provide a comprehensive selection of groceries but also come with extremely high prices that put a strain on the already stretched budgets of many families. The stores, in their current form, are not functional for fulfilling the basic needs of our community.

Upgrading these Dollar General stores to DG Markets would be a significant step forward in addressing these issues. DG Markets offer a greater variety of fresh produce, meats, and grocery essentials, along with the familiar products our community relies on. This would provide a much-needed alternative to our residents, particularly benefiting those who need it the most - the elderly and low-income families who struggle with transportation and financial constraints.

By bringing DG Market to Hancock County, we can ensure more affordable, nutritious food options close to home. It's time to make a positive, impactful change to improve the quality of life for our vulnerable populations.

Sign this petition to urge Dollar General to prioritize the upgrading of our local stores to DG Markets. Together, we can advocate for a healthier, more equitable community in Hancock County.
