Stop Hen/Egg Factory Plans in Thornton Le Beans

The Issue

Plans to erect an Egg factory, consisting of 3 x 256m long egg units in our beautiful village of Thornton Le Beans, to house 192,000 birds. This will obliterate 237 acres of our stunning Yorkshire countryside landscape, wildlife habitats, popular walking/cycling/riding routes and peaceful village life

This will take 1 year to construct with heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) regularly carrying building materials. Thousands of vehicles will be required for the concrete alone, adding to increasing pollution levels.

Operation of this site would include 18 HGVs per week passing through the village, on unsuitable, tight country roads and a further 48 HGVs at the start of each production cycle to transport the dead and new birds. This will not only cause disruption and danger due to the use of roads that have already been subject to serious road traffic accidents in the past 5 years.

This £10 million factory has been planned behind closed doors, before local villagers have been informed, leaving 80 homes very little time to defend our beautiful village.

We now face a fight to justify why our homes should be subjected to the daily scent of ammonia, noise pollution, traffic dangers and the worry for the impact on some of our elderly residents. We should be protecting animals from such industrialised processes and 60 week life spans.

Please help us fight to keep our village a place you would want to visit!
