Good Afternoon Lorne Park and Clarkson Community and Residents,
We learned today that Indwell plans to go to the Planning and Development Committee on Monday October 7, 2024 to aim to sidestep parking By-law requirements and "Pay in Lieu of Parking". This information was not widely disclosed to the public.
Andrew Whittemore (Commissioner of Planning & Building at the City of Mississauga) is recommending to City Council that Indwell be allowed to bypass the zoning By-laws in regards to parking. Mr. Whittemore is recommending a “Payment in Lieu of Parking” be used INSTEAD of Indwell having to meet zoning By-laws. For reference, Indwell is required to have 41 parking spaces with the current zoning By-law. Indwell has only 17 parking spaces. Indwell meets only 41% of their required parking. This is not acceptable. You can see Andrew Whittemore's recommendation in our Google Drive: Click here
Andrew Whittemore is recommending that Indwell be allowed to pay $246,432 to the City of Mississauga in lieu of the required parking be made available. As it stands, Indwell is required to have 41 parking spaces with the current zoning by-law. Indwell has only 17 parking spaces. The Payment in Lieu of Parking was intended to create paid-for parking lots for patrons and customers in order to promote the retail sector in Ward 2. It was not intended and designed to allow for developers to side-step zoning By-laws which exactly how it is being used in this case.
We have prepared a sample letter for residents and concerned citizens to send. The Google Drive Link to Sample Letter can be found here: Click here
