UPDATE: July 18, 2024
Good Morning Lorne Park and Clarkson Community!
We wanted to issue a general reminder to the community that tomorrow @ 4:00pm is the deadline to submit your letters to the Committee of Adjustments (COA), and register to appear in person or online to speak at next week's Committee of Adjustments meeting. Please do not miss this deadline.
- The deadline and cutoff to send in your comments/thoughts and to register to speak at the Committee of Adjustments is: July 19 at 4:30pm (Tomorrow)
- The Committee of Adjustments hearing for this Indwell proposed development is: Thursday July 25 at 1:00PM (Next week)
- When speaking at the Committee of Adjustments, each person is only allowed 5-minutes. It is imperative that you structure your comments to fit within that 5-minute time frame.
Kindly see the attached template letter to send into the COA along with the list of 14 variances. We have also provided on our Google Drive a template email for residents to download and email to the Committee of Adjustments. Open any of the documents you would like (double click on it) and then go to "File" and "Download" to download it to your computer.

Other Important Information on the Committee of Adjustments!
We have prepared a template letter that can be downloaded and if you choose, modified for those residents who might need some guidance. It should be noted that the Committee of Adjustments evaluates variances put before them with a "Four Test". Those Four Tests are listed below:
- Is the application minor in nature?
- Is it desirable for the appropriate development or use of the land, building or structure?
- Is it in keeping with the general intent and purpose of the Zoning By-laws?
- Is it in keeping with the general intent and purpose of the Official Plan?
We, along with MANY professionals, are arguing that of the 14 variances Indwell is putting before the Committee of Adjustments, that there are some that are major in nature, is not desirable for the appropriate development or use of the land/building or structure and overall it does not keep with the general intent and purpose of the Zoning By-Laws. We have also uploaded a file to help guide residents on this "Four Test" and would advise that when submitting your emails and when speaking in front of the COA your main focus should be on proving that Indwell Application and their variances do not meet the "Four Tests" above.
What do we need you to do:
1) Ideal Option: Sign Up To Speak IN PERSON at the COA AND Send a Letter to the COA Voicing Your Concerns:
- We need as many concerned citizens, business owners and our community to sign up to attend the COA meeting to voice community concerns
- Refer to Google Drive (Above) for a template and all submitted documents to the Building Department (from Indwell)
- Please detail that you would like to speak Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 1:00pm and you would like to be added to the list of speakers
2) Next Best Option: Email Your Concerns to the COA and speak over Zoom
- If you are unable to attend in person, please email your concerns to the Committee of Adjustments. All emails will be read by the committee
- Refer to Google Drive (Above) for a template and all submitted documents to the Building Department (from Indwell)
3) Donate To GoFundMe
- We have organized an official GoFundMe for the Clarkson & Lorne Park Coalition of Concerned Citizens. Your contributions towards legal and other Professional fees (Urban Planners, Professionals, ect.) and other services and expenditures encountered to defend the safety and protection of the Clarkson Lorne Park community require your generous financial participation to continue a strong defense with government officials, and possible courts. While legal fees can easily mount if we all go about our concerns as individuals, our collective effort and participation establishes strength in the community and allows the community's Coalition to move forward with defending your rights to safety and protection as taxpayers, citizens, and residents/business owners of the Clarkson Lorne Park community. Thank you for supporting a cause that will most certainly affect your daily living and business in the Clarkson Lorne Park community.

4) SPREAD THE WORD & SIGN UP FOR UPDATES
- We really cannot stress this enough, due to the recently passed Bill C23, this is potentially the last option available for halting the development of this proposed project.
- SEND THIS EMAIL to fellow neighbors, colleagues, and community members. Please do not assume people have registered or have seen this email. If in doubt – Send it.
- SIGN UP FOR UPDATES: LPClarksonWard2@gmail.com
Please share this update with all neighbors, friends, and/or supporters of the Clarkson & Lorne Park Coalition of Concerned Citizens. Do not assume people know about this, they may not.
Please email: LPClarksonWard2@gmail.com to be added to the update list.
We would like to end this update, by again reiterating that the Clarkson & Lorne Park Coalition of Concerned Citizens is NOT against Affordable or Supportive Housing. The concern is the proposed supportive housing ‘tenant mix’ of the serious mentally ill, drug addicts, and alcohol substance abusers at the proposed 1639 Lakeshore Road West location. Issues related to community and children safety and the neighborhood in general are not and have not been addressed by Indwell or our Government representatives.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
