I am affected personally by Ohio's HB 8 bill, a legislation that brings so much risk to closeted LGBTQ+ students who live in conservative and homophobic environments. This bill could potentially endanger the wellbeing and safety of vulnerable young children across Ohio. Recent studies have shown that such bills can significantly increase mental health issues amongst LGBTQ+ youth (The Trevor Project). We must consider that these children are in a position of development, where they need support, not further marginalization. We must prioritize their safety and allow them the journey of understanding and expressing their identity. Schools should be safe spaces where every student, regardless of their sexuality, can learn and grow without fear or prejudice. We must ensure they are not victimized or isolated because of who they are. This discriminatory bill undermines their right to safety, mental wellbeing, privacy, and the pursuit of happiness. Let us come together to protect these innocent lives experiencing their formative years amidst fear and discrimination. Raise your voice, stand up for what's right, and sign the petition to halt the progress of Ohio's HB 8 bill.
