As a concerned member of the public, I am deeply troubled by the proposed NC bill 237 that aims to ban the use of masks for health purposes in public. This legislation directly threatens the health and safety of North Carolinian’s, particularly during times when we need to protect ourselves from airborne diseases.

The World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have consistently emphasized the importance of mask-wearing as a simple yet effective measure in curbing disease spread. In fact, studies show that states with mask mandates had greater decreases in daily COVID-19 cases compared to those without such directives (Health Affairs, 2020).

This bill not only undermines these scientific findings but also infringes on our rights as citizens to take necessary precautions for our well-being.
