This development isn't just another building project; it's a threat to our community, our local businesses, and the very character of Northfleet. The Northfleet Harbourside Development will change the local area forever, replacing it with unaffordable residential blocks to bankroll a football club that many local people love, but all know struggle to fill its current ground.

The impact on local businesses would be devastating - these are longstanding businesses, which have grown, prospered, and have become a part of the community. The development threatens to shutter them permanently, laying waste to the small businesses of Northfleet who are trying to get by.

Residential blocks, which will be the largest thing around for miles and completely unaffordable for local people, are not what Northfleet needs. Our area is already changing rapidly, losing a sense of community, and this will only make things worse.

Using a development to support a struggling football club via this development is a ridiculous decision. The club, unfortunately, will most likely be relegated this season and already struggles with an under-filled stadium as it is. The club and its owners have been too closely tied to mad local development plans in the past - including the London Theme Park, which was thankfully fully cancelled at the start of this year.

The local community thoroughly rejected the theme park, and it should do so with this development too. We don't have the infrastructure or the need for this project: instead the focus should be on projects that benefit local people.

The council have already proven they can't repair roads in the area. So there should be serious questions about their ability to successfully oversee such a large-scale project.

In the light of these concerns and in the interest of looking out for the existing local community, we call for an immediate halt to the Northfleet Harbourside Development. For the sake of local businesses, the very identity of our town, and the fair use of our council's resources, let us unite in voicing our opposition. Please sign this petition and join our fight.
