Halt the Construction of Halfway-Houses in Rural Rescue, California
The Issue
I am signing this petition because I would like our county, and state, to stop the planned development of substance abuse centers on Deer Valley Court in Rescue. The goals of these facilities are extremely worthy, and we are not against the development of these kinds of facilities. We are very much against developing them in rural residential areas, where these facilities don't match the surrounding community and the patients aren't close to the services they may need. We created a video to help others understand the impact this development would have on our community: https://youtu.be/PZLQpurauFQ
We are homeowners and residents of El Dorado County, California. Our community in Rescue, is under threat due to the plans for two halfway-house projects for mental health and substance abuse treatment off Deer Valley Road, with a third facility slated for Shingle Springs. These developments will drastically alter our peaceful rural lifestyle and have huge impacts on the surrounding area.
The proposed projects will bring about major impacts on our community. We are looking at dangerous traffic increases on our quiet roads, urban-style commercial structures that do not fit into our rural landscape, limited water sources, noise pollution and parking headaches that we are ill-equipped to handle. Moreover, these projects seem to be an end-run around local planning and zoning laws which were designed to protect communities like ours.
Furthermore, there is concern about patients being imported from distant counties. This could potentially strain local resources while failing to address the needs of those within their own communities.
Our small residential community is being overwhelmed with these commercial developments which threaten the very fabric of what makes Rescue special - its tranquility and close-knit community spirit.
We urge our State officials to reconsider these plans that could irreversibly damage our beloved town's character and quality of life. Please join us in taking a stand for rural Rescue by signing this petition today!
