Halt the Construction of EIH/Shelter on Via Del Oro/San Ignacio Crossing

Halt the Construction of EIH/Shelter on Via Del Oro/San Ignacio Crossing
The Issue
As a deeply invested resident of Santa Teresa, San Jose, CA, I am deeply concerned about the proposed 150-room interim housing at the crossing of Via Del Oro and San Ignacio. This is not a faceless issue for me; it has ramifications for my family, my one-year-old child, and our community. We have worked hard to build a safe, secure environment - thanks in no small part to the property taxes we dutifully pay. We dream of a future for our child in local schools that we hope will remain excellent.
This proposed project, a partnership of DignityMoves and the City of San Jose, threatens to disrupt the peace of our area. It is a widely recognized fact that rates of theft and other crimes tend to rise in proximity to shelters. Our beloved neighborhood risks being negatively impacted by these developments. Moreover, we find it disappointing and frankly cruel how our local leaders are concentrating homeless facilities such as shelters, RV parkings, etc., solely in South San Jose.
While we understand the importance of servicing the homeless population, we firmly believe it should not come at the cost of reducing our neighborhood’s safety and the quality of our schools. We urge a rethink of this decision, with a view to distribute the infrastructure evenly across the city, thereby maintaining the balance between societal needs and our neighborhood’s integrity. Sign this petition to support our cause, let's make our voices heard and halt the construction of this interim housing.
