Halt the Closure of Local Bowling Greens, Plumstead

The Issue

We along with many members of our local community, find deep personal connect with our local bowling greens. It's more than just a space to play; it's a place where people of all ages come together to meet, socialise, and enjoy the game. The ongoing closures of these precious greens threaten to disrupt our community, significantly affecting long-standing traditions and bonds.

Did you know that, according to Bowls England, bowling greens are not only breeding grounds for community cohesion but also promote physical activity among all age groups? In fact, they reported that 40% of players are over 60 years, suggesting bowling greens are crucial in keeping our older generations active and socially connected.

Furthermore, as per a study by Age UK, isolation and lack of social interaction are significant issues among the elderly - with 1.4 million older people feeling cut off from society. Bowling greens offer an antidote to this growing societal problem, providing opportunities for socialisation and community engagement.

Without our local bowling greens, we stand to lose much more than a leisure activity. We risk losing a part of our community's identity, health benefits for our elderly, and a gathering point that facilitates friendship and camaraderie.

So let's make our voices heard. Keep our community spirit alive and demand an end to the unwarranted closures. Please, join me in signing this petition.
