Our community is strongly opposing the proposed annexation of the unincorporated areas surrounding Hemet called Hemet Sphere of Influence (SOI) into the city of Hemet. This includes Valle Vista, East Hemet, Diamond Valley Lake area, and South West near Tahquitz. Such a merger would drastically affect our neighborhoods with the current infastructure of Hemet being unable to manage the additions. The City of Hemet currently struggles with the upkeep and development within its current boundaries. We firmly believe in maintaining the separate status and identity that has served to foster a distinct community spirit in the unincorporated areas.

Moreover, the existing infrastructure and services in Hemet SOI are relatively self-sufficient. The services provided by Riverside County continue to serve the area and can not be adequately replaced by Hemet's proposal to annex. The City of Hemet is not able to support and improve its current poplution of approximately 92,000. Adding about 28,000 people and land to the city will not help Hemet improve its current lack of practices and infrastructures to support its citizens. Similarly, the potential for raised property taxes without a corresponding increase in local services is not a trade-off that our community is willing to accept without thorough debate and consensus.
