Petition updateHalt the Annexation of Unincorportated Hemet AreasNext Steps: Contact Chuck Washington and City of Hemet Council Members

Thank you all for signing. Here are some updates since this was started in March.

  • The City of Hemet voted to send this to the city planning commission.
    • You can attend the city council meeting and the planning commission meetings, and tell them your opinion. Annexation does not have to be on the agenda for a public comment. Even if you are not in the city of Hemet, this petition now gives us a voice to engage Hemet Council Members on the topic. You can also contact the city manager.
    • The goal is to stop this BEFORE the city of Hemet approves this and sends it to the LAFCO Planning Commission with the county.
    • The next meeting is Tuesday, August 12th, at the Hemet Library on the 2nd Floor at 6 pm. We would love to see you there and meet you!
  • Email and call Supervisor Chuck Washington's office. Washington's Chief of Staff has been asked what the next steps are to discuss annexation with the Supervisor. He has not responded other than with an email saying he will get back to us. He is our first point of contact and must know what you want as a resident and constituent of his region. He is our elected official and works for us.
  • Out of frustration with not getting the facts and information or having a difficult time finding out who to contact, a group of residents started a website for you all to reference.
    • Please visit hemetregioninformed.org to see all the information we have found about the annexation. We also have City and County contact information, along with email and letter templates for you to use. Please join our contact list or email us so we can let you know of upcoming events where we will be holding our signs to let others in our neighborhoods know what is happening. It will take all of us!

The city will be another layer of politicians we will have to deal with if the unincorporated areas are annexed. We don't need more governing. We need to make county representatives know what we want!

For the residents of Hemet, who have also signed this petition, thank you! You do not want us to join because the resources you currently have will be spread thin. The website has public records for the city of Hemet showing that there will not be enough revenue from the incorporated areas to support the police and fire.

We all choose where we live and work to support the community in the best way possible. Hemet is not yet prepared to be the 4th largest city in Riverside County. No matter if you have a 3, 4 or 5-digit address, your voice on this matters. Contact your elected officials and tell them NO Annexation Hemet SOI!
