The Issue

Thanet Council

I’m representing not just myself, but also many local residents in Cliffsend and Pegwell who have dedicated countless hours towards the rewilding of our precious green spaces.

Working closely with a local Hedgehog Hospital using Cliffends’ Green spaces as a release site.

The oasis we have come to value is under threat from new housing developments. Our roads, narrow and winding, are already strained and can hardly accommodate any further increase in traffic.

The proposed developments would also place undue burden on our limited public services, leading to a decline in the standard of living in the community.

Moreover, Cliffsend and Pegwell is a haven to a rich tapestry of wildlife, with parts of our community classified as grade 1 farm land, indicating that it is of the highest quality for agricultural or wild habitat. Estimations show that we are home to many species of birds, mammals, insects, and a vast array of plant life, many of which can only thrive in habitats like ours.

The planned housing development will not only rob this habitat but also irreversibly convert our last remaining green spaces into concrete structures.

It will be disastrous for local biodiversity, which has already been shrinking worldwide.

According to the World Wildlife Fund, the planet lost 60% of its biodiversity between 1970 and 2014, demonstrating the urgency of protecting the natural habitats that remain. The UK is now one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth.

We urge planners and developers to reconsider their plans for housing developments in Cliffsend and Pegwell taking into account the enduring value that our green spaces hold both for the local community and the wildlife within it. Please, sign this petition to demonstrate your support for halting any further encroachment on the natural beauty and resources of Cliffsend and Pegwell Bay.
