Halt Dangerous Street Racing and Car Meets on Firefly Rd/JLR Bridge

The Issue

The local community of Baginton, Coventry and the surrounding area is under threat due to the irresponsible and dangerous street racing and car meets taking place on the Firefly Rd/JLR bridge over the A45.

This reckless behaviour has already resulted in tragic incidents causing death and life-changing injuries. The daily occurrence of car cruising is not only a nuisance but also a significant safety concern for residents and road users alike. Many have expressed their fear due to aggressive driving practices and excessive noise levels that disrupt peace in our neighbourhood.

This petition calls upon local authorities to take immediate action against such activities, implementing stricter regulations, enforcement measures, or even physical alterations to the road if necessary. We must ensure that our roads are safe for everyone - pedestrians, cyclists, drivers - rather than being used as race tracks by a few individuals who disregard public safety.

Numerous reports have been made to both West Midlands and Warwickshire Police Force reporting boy racers of running red lights, drifting and racing around the roundabout, cars losing control and mounting central reservations all whilst driving at excessive and downright dangerous speeds. All reporters have stated to police that a serious accident was inevitable.

If this antisocial behaviour is allowed to continue they pose a genuine threat to life through reckless driving not to mention the impact of the local residents’ quality of life.

We want to prevent any more deaths or serious injuries to the ‘boy racers’, other road users, bystanders and local residents and pedestrians.

We need to see a change in whatever form.

Either

Implementation of a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which prohibits  antisocial behaviour including unauthorised car meetings.

                         Or

Implementation of A High Court Injunction which bans the taking part of as a driver, a rider or passenger, in gatherings of two or more in motor racing, motor stunts or other dangerous and obstructive driving. Anyone breaching this injunction will be in contempt of court and could be sent to prison, fined and have their assets seized and vehicle crushed.

Central government have recently released a huge £66 million to be shared between all police forces in England and Wales to ramp up patrols of local ‘hotspots’ and areas plagued by anti-social behaviour. Let’s ensure we have a proportion of this budget to give the police force the powers they need and ensure local authorities help to take these ‘racetrack playgrounds’ away and make our local roads safe once again.

By signing this petition you are standing with your community against this dangerous behaviour. Let's work together to make Baginton a safer place for all its residents. Please sign this petition today!
