Halt Changes to Fremont County Development Code Until Comprehensive Plan Updated

Halt Changes to Fremont County Development Code Until Comprehensive Plan Updated
The Issue
Like many Fremont County property owners, I find the recent developments alarming and unprecedented. We were assured that no changes would be made to the development code until the comprehensive plan was updated. However, our trust has been breached as changes are being instigated without waiting for the plan's renewal.
One of the core principles of democratic governance is the involvement of the community, especially when these changes directly impact us. We, the property owners, have a right to our voices being heard and our opinions incorporated into the plan.
Fremont County needs to reaffirm its commitment to its residents by halting all alterations to the development code. Not until the comprehensive plan has been updated by an independent third party, involving local community members, should revisions recommence.
Keeping a community informed and implicated in its development is not just a token of democracy; it is its foundation. A study by the American Planning Association (2019) reaffirms the significance of public participation, showing that decisions that include input from a broad range of stakeholders yield better outcomes and more robust community support.
Sign this petition if you believe in standing up for our rights as property owners and urge the Fremont County leadership to put a moratorium on development code changes until the comprehensive plan update involving the community.
