We received a response again from Halifax public libraries that they will be continuing to navigate their internal process, which means we have more time to share and spread awareness of how hateful and unwelcome this book is in our public libraries.

One of the things we were told in our meeting with the Head Librarian and Management was that this book was chosen based on the integrity that Shrier has as a journalist. Today I will further pick away at that claim.

I've already addressed the misrepresentation of bad science in her book, you can look into the previous updates on this campaign to learn more about that. I've also shared videos that offer even deeper insights into the flaws in her research. I've also demonstrated her connection to extremist white-supremacist organizations like Prager U. all of this evidence can be found in my past updates so please do browse those.

Today I will add another point of doubt to the claim that she is a reputable journalist. And it comes in the form of an individual she interviewed, a trans man named Chase Ross.

In September 2020 Chase Ross alegged that Shrier tricked him into doing the interview under the assumption that she was writing a book to help trans youth with dysphoria. [1]

This allegation is very serious, but it isn't unethical for a journalist to lie about the intent of an interview. Where the ethical issue comes into play here is when we understand the author's misrepresentation of science and her connection and involvement with extremist media outlets it begins to cast serious doubt on the legitimacy of her journalism.

The finished work is a manual for child abuse, that relies on wordplay to strike fear into the mind of unsuspecting parents against their child's gender. The book is NOT a balanced work of journalism, it trains the parent to put their own child through a form of conversion therapy - which is illegal in Nova Scotia.
