TODAY IS THE DAY WE BEGIN!
I am writing to urge all residents of Redington Beach to support a crucial petition that advocates for taking the ban on sunshade canopies directly to the residents. Simply put, with enough signatures, the Redington Beach Board of Commissioners can either enact the proposed changes to allow the use of canopies or take the issue to a vote via referendum.
As many beach goers are now aware, the Redington Beach Board of Commissioners voted to move forward with their update to the Customary Usage ordinance to specifically ban sunshade canopies on all of Redington Beach (but allows condo associations to make their own decisions). This is not what the previous version of the ordinance outlined. The Redington Beach Board of Commissioners did this despite the fact that a large portion of Redington Beach citizens were NOT in favor of this update. This was evidenced by a petition that was signed by more than 500 people, and by the 60+ people that took the time to show up at two of their meetings to personally voice their opposition. The vote went as follows:

o Vice Mayor Richard Cariello-NO
o Tim Kornijtschuk-YES
o Tim Thompson-ABSENT
o Jim Murray-ABSENT
Fortunately, as residents of Redington Beach, we have the opportunity to exercise our right to repeal this update as defined in Sec. 19 of the Town Charter. Starting August 15th, we will begin our 60-day window of collecting qualified signatures. To sign this next petition, you must be currently registered to vote in Redington Beach. Please find us at one of the following locations to sign and have your voice heard. See attached.
To make this vision a reality, we need the support of our community. We are urging all qualified residents to sign the petition advocating for taking the approval of canopies on Redington Beach to the voters. Your participation will make a significant difference in enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, making our beach a more welcoming and enjoyable destination.
