GTA Online: Bring Back the Adversary Modes

GTA Online: Bring Back the Adversary Modes
O problema
Hello, Rockstar Games,
I’d like to talk about something that has been bothering me for years: the removal of most Adversary Modes and their very unbalanced rotation.
Back on September 16, 2021, you said that their removal was to “make room for further updates, as well as to assist with player matchmaking.”
(Here's the link to your Newswire where it says that): https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/89ok48739a318a/bikers-of-all-stripes-come-out-ahead-this-week
Also, on July 8, 2021, you stated that “these Jobs will be cycled in and out over time as we continue to add to the game in the future.”
(Here's the link to your Newswire where it says that): https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/519a2841o19oa9/new-survival-maps-arrive-in-gta-online
I think those ideas sound good in theory — but in practice, they just don’t make sense!
If one of the goals is to improve matchmaking, why were mainly Adversary Modes and Versus Missions removed? There are still tons of Rockstar-created Deathmatches, Last Team Standings, Parachuting, and Races available in the game. Wouldn’t it make more sense to remove rotate most of those as well?
The argument of “making room for future updates” doesn’t make sense either, especially on the new generation (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S), where the game runs perfectly fine and large amounts of content aren’t really a problem.
Besides, no Jobs are actually deleted from the game files — they’re just disabled and made inaccessible, which doesn’t help performance at all.
And the Adversary Mode rotation itself is really frustrating and unbalanced. Some game modes return way more often than others, and some have NEVER come back.
It always feels like the same Adversary Modes are returning over and over again. Seriously, I’ve been wanting to play Vehicle Vendetta, but the last time it came back was in June 2022 — more than three years ago!
Turf Wars was another mode I loved, and it only returned three times in four years. There are even several modes that came back only once, like Air Quota, In & Out, etc. Some have never returned at all.
It’s also annoying when no Adversary Mode returns in a event week. In 2025 alone, we’ve had 11 weeks without a single featured Adversary Mode — that’s just ridiculous.
The situation has gotten much worse recently. On 2021-2024, the Adversary Modes used to return for a minimum of 2-3 weeks, and usually stayed available for 4 weeks. But I noticed that since the end of 2024, normally now only one Adversary Mode returns per week, and it’s available for just one week, which is really frustrating.
The Slasher Adversary Mode is a good example. In 2023, it stayed in GTA Online for a month (of course, only one week had bonuses, but it was available during all Halloween period), but in 2024 and 2025, it was only available for a single week. This has made the rotation even more annoying.
Here’s a table that proves everything I’ve been saying.
* Google Sheets:* https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12wg0A6l3ZZTkKlljNmNpv9az6ISEp1oxQosiTrBGPXI/edit?usp=drivesdk
*Excel:* https://1drv.ms/x/c/db3537a406faed90/EaxcMzTCU9JMiVLKNsX_ekgBweML18mufGDG3vOi0MS73Q
(Download the table if you plan to open Excel on your phone. The online version is very cluttered on mobile devices)
You can clearly see that everything I wrote matches the table. For example, Adversary Modes like Hunting Pack, Sumo, Overtime Rumble, Hasta La Vista, Deadline, and Tiny Racers are the ones that return the most often. Meanwhile, other fantastic and fun modes, like Vehicle Vendetta, PowerPlay, Turf Wars, and many more, are left in the dark. Dawn Raid, for example, is a game mode I love, and it has returned 0 times in total!
If I counted correctly, there were 59 different Adversary Modes released in GTA Online, so having only one of them (Sumo Remix) permanently available is just horrible.
In the same table, it’s also noticeable that back in September 2021, Rockstar at least kept some Adversary Modes available, such as the Bunker, Missile Base, Diamond variations, Deadline and Hasta La Vista — but even those were gradually removed over time, which only made things worse.
The best and most unique Adversary Modes should definitely be permanent.
Below, I’ll share some possible solutions for what could be done with the Adversary Modes:
1. Make the best and most unique Adversary Modes permanently active
These should be permanent:
• Bunker, Missile Base & Diamond Adversary Modes
• Assault on ATT-16
• Assault on Cayo Perico
• Deadline
• Entourage
• Hardest Target
• Hasta La Vista
• Hunting Pack
• Hunting Pack (Remix)
• Kart Krash (It wasn't on the Adversary Modes list, but it's fun)
• Kill Quota
• Land Grab
• Motor Wars
• Overtime Rumble
• Power Play
• Ressurection
• Running Back (Remix)
• Slasher
• Stockpile
• Sumo
• Sumo (Remix)
• The Vespucci Job
• The Vespucci Job (Remix)
• Tiny Racers
• Trading Places
• Turf Wars
• Vehicle Vendetta
This list still only about half of all 59 Adversary Modes, but it would already make me and many other players happy to have our favorite game modes permanently available.
The remaining modes that aren't on the list should still rotate, but having those on the list permanently would be enough. And of course, all Adversary Modes in the game (the permanent and rotated ones) should regularly receive bonuses
2. Keep all Adversary Modes active in the game, but only one map per week
This would also be great, because all modes would be available to play, but limiting it to one map at a time could help improve matchmaking.
The maps should rotate weekly.
And during weekly events, all maps from selected Adversary Modes could temporarily return.
3. A mix of the previous two suggestions
Even with only half of the Adversary Modes active, having all maps of those modes active at the same time might not be ideal for matchmaking.
As a solution, I think 2 or 3 maps of each mode could be active per week, rotated weekly.
And as I said in suggestion 2: during weekly events, all maps from selected Adversary Modes could temporarily return.
EDITED: From this paragraph onward, the petition was edited and some additional text was added (such as suggestions 4 and 5). Edited on January 2, 2026. The rest of the text before this paragraph has not been edited.
4. Each week should have 6 different adversary modes available to play, each one with a different maximum number of players.
Example:
Week 1:
• Deadline (4 players)
• Hunting Pack (8 players)
• Vehicle Vendetta (10 players)
• PowerPlay (12 players)
• Kill Quota (16 players)
• Assault on Cayo Perico (30 players)
Week 2:
• The Vespucci Job (4 players)
• Turf Wars (8 players)
• Overtime Rumble (10 players)
• Entourage (12 players)
• Hardest Target (16 players)
• Assault on ATT-16 (30 players)
5. Bring Back Multiple Adversary Modes Each Week (All with the Same Player Limit).
This solution is a bit different from Suggestion 4. Instead of each Adversary Mode having a different number of players, all modes available in the same week would share the same maximum player limit. The player cap would then rotate weekly — for example, one week should be focused on modes for up to 4 players, another for 8 players, another for 16 players, and so on.
In practice, Rockstar could bring back 2 to 7 Adversary Modes per week, all receiving bonuses and being in the Featured Series. This has already happened a few times in 2025 and could become much more common, offering a better experience than always rotating only a single game mode.
Example:
Week 1 (4 player modes):
• Deadline
• Hasta La Vista
• The Vespucci Job
• Tiny Racers
Week 2 (8 player modes):
• Hunting Pack
• Running Back (Remix)
• Sumo
• Turf Wars
Week 3 (10 players modes):
• Overtime Rumble
• Vehicle Vendetta
• Trading Places
• Juggernaut
I think it’s clear enough… Week 4 with Adversary Modes for 12 players; Week 5 for 16 players, and so on.
Well, those were all the suggestions I wanted to make. Since I’m editing the petition on January 2, 2026, I’d like to include a few (sad) facts related to the Adversary Modes in 2025.
• Only 34 out of 59 Adversary Modes returned in 2025.
• There were 14 weeks in 2025 with no Adversary Mode returning at all.
• There were 6 weeks on 2025 when more than one Adversary Mode returned.
• Of the 34 Adversary Modes that returned:
→ 21 returned only once;
→ 10 returned twice;
→ 3 returned three times;
→ The remaining 25 Adversary Modes did not return in 2025
Remember: 2025 had 52 weeks…
The current situation with Adversary Modes is bad and needs to be fixed. For example, in November and December of 2025, only 3 Adversary Modes returned over a period of more than 60 days. And all of these 3 returning game modes had already returned earlier in 2025.
This is terrible for players who enjoy the variety of Adversary Modes, let's not forget that GTA Online has 59 Adversary Modes — how can something like this happen?
While some Adversary Modes returned 2 or 3 times in 2025, others have only returned once since 2021, and some have never returned at all since their removal.
END OF EDITING: The texts below were written on the day the petition was published.
Well, these are my suggestions. But if you really want to improve matchmaking, a major cleanup is needed in the Deathmatches, Captures, Last Team Standing, Races, Stunt Races, and Parachuting tabs as well.
Just don't make the same mistakes you made with Adversary Modes, the rotation and removal process should be balanced. There’s no need to remove 99% of those Jobs, and the ones that are rotated out should return regularly.
Also, please bring back or at least rotate the Versus Missions more often. Some of them are very fun and have rarely (or never) returned to GTA Online.
Before finishing, I need to thank some people who inspired this petition:

Thank you so much for making this video, @UnderwaterPixel! (YouTube)
To create my table, another one ended up helping me a lot , thanks also @PLTytus (X/Twitter): https://pltytus.usermd.net/adversary_career_progress/
Rockstar, please consider making these changes! Many players, including myself, truly love GTA Online, and playing Adversary Modes with friends and crew members used to be one of the most enjoyable and fun parts of the game. Removing them takes away an essential part of the fun for so many of us.
And please, don't make the same mistakes you made with Adversary Modes in the next online mode (GTA VI Online). Trying to improve matchmaking is important, but it can't be done by literally removing 99% of Adversary Modes. I hope many of these amazing Jobs from GTA Online will be ported to GTA VI Online.
