Greg Abbott recently sent a letter to the DFPS concerning the use of sex change operations on minors as child abuse. Although factually he is not incorrect, there is a major oversight. What Governor Abbott is legally misconstruing is that, yes a sex change operation on a minor is recognized by the public as CHILD ABUSE, legally you CANNOT get a sex change until the age of 18 or older. Even then a lot of stipulations and red tape need to be followed in the first place to even be eligible for a sex change.You can read more about that here. Abbott also neglects the law of confidentiality. An explicit law that doctors, nurses, and therapists HAVE to legally follow.

However, among those sentences I did fail to mention the case of testosterone and estrogen supplement abuse towards children, this I can understandably see being more of an issue. BUT, it is the same case with the surgery. There is so much red tape and so many hoops you have to go through in order to even be prescribed the medication. You can read about it here.

Trans children just wanna be left alone and want to be treated as human. Greg Abbott, what you are going after, knowingly or not to you, is putting these children at risk for being torn away from a (most likely) supportive home. What you are doing is adversely affecting the children you sought to protect. If you want to assist said children you are unknowingly pushing to the dirt, maybe you should go after the people who threw their kids out after they came out because they couldn’t be proud of a “confused about their identity” child. Do you know how many children are stuck out in the winter weather because of that? Simply because they couldn’t be them? Oh yeah, didn’t you say one of your initiatives was to improve mental health resources for ALL Texans? Suicide and mental health degradation rates are some of the highest among transgender youths. So, if you don’t assist the children you’ll have failed your little mission to help abused children escape bad homes. Not to mention you’ll be seen as highly transphobic, and I know you care too much about your public image.

Personally, I am someone who identifies as non-binary and I have a multitude of trans friends. Doing this and allowing us to freely express without the fear of our families being torn apart or being harassed more than we already are would lovingly be appreciated and be beneficial to all parties involved.
