Greenlight a Jean Grey solo movie
The Issue
Ever since I saw Spider-Man: Brand New Day, I couldn't shake off the excitement I felt when Sadie Sink brought Jean Grey to life on the big screen. As I'm sure many of you may or may not have done, when Jean Grey was name dropped during the movie, my hand went to my mouth in excitement, as I watched that scene.
The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has grossed an astounding $927 million worldwide since its international release on July 31st, underscores the demand for more stories from the Marvel universe. With such a high-grossing movie, Marvel Studios has a golden opportunity to explore what makes Jean Grey so unique as a character and why she fights for what's right.
Jean Grey is not just another character. She represents themes of power, identity, and self-discovery, all of which resonate deeply with audiences around the world , right now. Developing a solo project for her could provide an in-depth exploration of her journey, in the form of a prequel taking place prior to the events of Brand New Day, or a film exploring what she's up to now, after the end of the film, and possibly during the events of the upcoming Avengers movies.
The timing is perfect: with the rising popularity of superhero films featuring strong female leads - such as Supergirl, Black Panther: Wukanda Forever and Black Widow - a Jean Grey movie would not only fulfill long-standing fan desires for more mutants appearing in the MCU during the upcoming phase 7 after Avengers: Secret Wars. Moreover, it would provide an opportunity for us to learn more about how Jean Grey has developed over-time, and what her goals are, and understand her more as a character.
I urge Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios to greenlight a Jean Grey solo movie, as I believe there are so many stories and facts to be told and learnt about her, that simply could not be fully covered in a team-up movie, for example.
