I have now written to the Scottish Government, three people in particular; Shona Robison (Health Secretary); Nicola Sturgeon (First Minister) and Humza Yousaf (Glasgow MSP) asking them to answer the following questions for clarification:
1. Do you, as a government minister, support the new hospital being named after the Queen?
2. Did the Scottish Government and/or Health Department give the go-ahead/green light for it to be named after the Queen?
3. Do you agree that the name should remain despite majority of people and staff at the hospital opposing the new name?
4. Are you willing to intervene force the health board to resort back to original name or allow the people to name it considering it was taxpayers money who paid for it?
5. Do you agree that you should intervene as a government minister to support the majority of people whose taxes paid for the hospital and get the name changed?
I have been told I need to wait four weeks for a response. This was two weeks ago. As soon as I hear back from them we will know where we stand.
It is clear the Health Board are emphatic Royalists (you just need to read the Freedom of Information request about the process of naming the hospital to see that) so I think if the name is going to be changed it will have to be done by the Scots Government intervening.
We shall wait and see. I'll keep you updated. In the meantime, feel free to share the petition again, we're almost at an incredible 13,000 signatures.
