The Issue

I am creating this petition because I have witnessed firsthand the immense discomfort and pain that women endure while menstruating, yet they are expected to maintain their professional responsibilities without any relief. It’s challenging to see someone you care about suffer through this natural biological process and still be forced to function at peak productivity. As men, it’s only right that we stand in solidarity and support this cause to ensure fairness and compassion in the workplace.

Menstruation is not only a monthly reality for countless women but also often accompanied by symptoms that can significantly impact their daily lives. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, approximately 85% of menstruating women experience some form of premenstrual syndrome. Symptoms can range from severe cramps, migraines, and back pain, to fatigue, nausea, and even fainting in extreme cases. Despite this, workplaces seldom accommodate these challenges, leaving women to either suffer in silence or use their limited vacation or sick leave to cope.

In countries like Japan, Indonesia, and South Korea, menstrual leave is already acknowledged and implemented, setting a precedent for how we can create more inclusive and understanding working environments. In these countries, women are afforded paid menstrual leave, recognizing the need for personal and bodily accommodation without the stigma of being penalized or judged inadequately committed to their roles.

Our goal is to advocate for companies and workplaces to implement specific paid menstrual leave policies. This would allow women to take time off during their periods with full pay, ensuring they can manage their health without the added stress of professional repercussions. This is not just a women’s issue; it's a societal concern that requires everyone's attention and support.

By fostering a workplace culture that acknowledges and supports the health needs of all employees, we promote workplace equality and signal a commitment to genuine employee well-being. I urge my fellow colleagues, employers, and communities to take action and support the integration of menstrual leave in our workplace policies.

Please join me in signing this petition to create a fairer and more compassionate work environment for women experiencing their periods. Together, we can make a significant change and ensure that no woman has to choose between her health and her job.
