Growing up in Wisconsin, there is nothing quite like the thrill of supporting our local sports teams. The Milwaukee Brewers have been a source of excitement and pride for generations, yet they have never had the chance to celebrate a World Series win. This season, with the Brewers so close to clinching the championship, we, the students of the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, believe it's time to recognize this monumental occasion with an extraordinary celebration.

As members of the UWL community, we respectfully request that the university administration declare a campus-wide day off should the Brewers triumph in the World Series. This would not only honor the team’s incredible achievement but also acknowledge the unifying power of sports, which brings together students, faculty, and staff in a shared spirit of joy and camaraderie. In a state where sports are more than just a pastime, this small gesture would be a significant acknowledgment of our community's passion and pride.

This is a personal cause for many of us who have grown up cheering for the Brewers, witnessing both the highs and the lows. A World Series victory would be historic, something generations have long awaited. By giving the UWL community the day off, the university would be participating in a state-wide celebration, strengthening the collective spirit and swapping a day of ordinary routine with extraordinary revelry.

We understand that academic commitments are important and that lost time must be balanced with educational responsibilities. However, we propose rescheduling important academic events to ensure no disruption to vital educational activities while still allowing everyone to join in on this once-in-a-lifetime celebration.

Join us in urging the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse to support its students and staff in commemorating what could be one of the most memorable moments in Wisconsin sports history. Sign this petition to help make a day off at UWL a reality if the Milwaukee Brewers clinch this long-awaited victory.
