Hello friends, I hope you're all safe and doing well. The situation in Ukraine continues to escalate with more attacks on various cities threatening the lives of innocent civilians.
More than 250 of you have already sent the message to Alex Hawke and I'm grateful for your action. If we are to be heard, we need to send the message in thousands, not hundreds.
Only yesterday, the Prime Minister flagged that the government's visa response for Ukrainians would be similar to that of their response to Afghans fleeing the Taliban - but it is not enough. Given the crises in each of the countries, Australia must expand visa intakes from Ukraine and Afghanistan, beyond the current national humanitarian visa allowance.
Please email the Immigration Minister to grant special visas for Ukrainians urgently.
I spent all of last night talking to my parents and devising plans for their safe evacuation out of Ukraine. They are old and frail so it's not an easy decision to leave their home country. But it's necessary for them to survive.
Every day, our relatives' lives are being threatened. We need the Australian government to give clear pathways to war refugees to come and seek protection in this wonderful country.
