Waste of timelah! Some say...
Back in September 2012, we had our first petition/request that garnered more than 1000 signatures! Due to various reasons, we were unable to achieve our goal of the name change.
Why did we start this new petition??
This topic was raised during our recent CPPA AGM and members agreed to put forth our humble request again. Convent Seremban will celebrate its 120th Anniversary in 2024. It is significant to celebrate our Legacy of Love by acknowledging it with gratitude, pride, and hope for the future.
While we greatly treasure our past, more importantly, we are alive today to celebrate our present and build a bright future for generations to come.
"Educational Excellence For All", was and shall remain the most significant contribution of Convent Seremban (CHIJ). Without this, many of us would not be contributing to our local community and the nation in an impactful and progressive manner.
Some have stated that this is a waste of time and effort as almost 30 years have passed since our school building was demolished. Why is the Convent name so important? And can we not just forget the past and move on?
The simple answer lies in the fact that: 1. CONVENT was the name of OUR SCHOOL. 2. The dataran area was OUR FIELD. 3. We Convent Girls are still ALIVE to carry OUR LEGACY OF LOVE and impact future generations.
Rather than constantly bemoan the loss of our 'past' (physical structure), this is our way of celebrating the PRESENT and MOVING FORWARD in HOPE for a brighter future. Action certainly speaks louder than words. There are deeper values embedded in our simple request. In time perhaps more people will understand and join us on this journey.
Can we not envision a 'designer' public park smack in the HEART OF SWEET SEREMBAN that is vibrant and serves as a heritage ground? A functional park that promotes activities for every age; and highlights cultural events for locals/tourists and so much more?!
On that note, let us assure you that this is not just about a name but Convent values that are deeply rooted; Gratitude is one of them.
