Hello ladies and gents, It would appear that as per usual the Home Office calendar varies somewhat from everyone else’s, and that when a minister says it will be two weeks before we will hear something about the proposed changes he does in fact mean far longer. We have received assurances however, that the Prime Minister is, “Chasing up the Home Office”. Quite what that entails I am not sure, but I think it is meant to be reassuring. As you will remember at 1 pm on October the 12th a small group of us will be delivering the comments from our petition to Number 10 Downing Street. Each frontage sheet reads as follows: For the Attention of: Rt Hon David Cameron MP – Prime Minister Rt Hon Theresa May MP – Home Secretary Rt Hon Mike Penning MP – Minister of State for Policing, Crime, Criminal Justice and Victims 'Oft-times during our campaign we have been reminded that it is, “The Government’s duty to ensure that public service pension schemes are affordable, just and fair, both for the members of those schemes and for other tax payers”. We are asking that all police survivors be granted lifelong pensions – thus affording us parity with the Royal Ulster Constabulary widows in Northern Ireland. The following comments are testimony that members of the 1987 Police Pension Scheme and other tax payers agree that we should be successful in our campaign.’ As MPs do not count amongst our six allotted places for our visit to Downing Street - please encourage your MP to join us on the day. Photographers, film crews and reporters in possession of their National Union of Journalists (NUJ) valid photographic identity card will be granted access to the Downing Street press pen and do not have to be listed on our application.
