Grant Dependent Visas for Senior Parents of British Citizens

The Issue

I, like many other British citizens, find myself in a difficult situation. My parents are over 70 and live alone in India while my siblings and I are well settled here in the UK. We have no one to take care of our parents back home and this is a concern that haunts us every day.

This isn't just our story. There are countless other British citizens who have their elderly parents living alone in different countries, requiring their children's care and support. The current immigration laws do not allow these senior citizens to apply for Permanent Residency (PR) or even a super visa that would enable them to live with us without the restriction of having to leave every six months.

The Office for National Statistics reports that there were approximately 295,000 Indian-born residents aged 60 years and over living in England and Wales at the time of the last census (source: ONS). Many among them could be facing similar predicaments.

We believe it's time for a change. We urge the UK government to reconsider its stance on dependent visas for senior citizen parents based on their children's citizenship status. This would not only alleviate our worries but also ensure that we can provide proper care for our aging parents.

Please sign this petition urging the UK government to grant dependent visas or at least super visas with no six-month restrictions, allowing senior citizen parents of British citizens to stay with their children who can look after them during these critical years of their lives.
