Grant a petition for private swimming pools
The Issue
Hello, I would like to let the public aware that there are no bi-laws for owners of swimming pools in their backyards to have it drained or covered when unattended (especially having the pool drained or covered when no one lives at the property). My friend's daughter Amora at 3 years old drowned in a neighbour's pool May 23rd. She escaped from her families grasp for a few short minutes and we'll the family was running around on the street screaming for her little Amora was drowning in the neighbours pool that was left uncovered and unattended because the owners of the house do not live on the property. The gate was not latched. To this day the gate sits still unlatched, the owners have been to the property to clean up the backyard and clear the debris from the pool and still have left the pool filled with the same water that she lost her life in, the gate still remains unlatched. Her grandmother has to wake up daily to look at that pool and also looks at it worried that someone else's child might slip from their parents grasps and go to the pool. When I called the ajax bi-law enforcement this morning they said the most they can do is issue a bi-law ticket for them to latch the gate. That does not change the fact that the pool still remains full of the same water that little Amora died in and it is uncovered and not drained well no one lives at the property.
People need to be made responsible for keeping their pools safe!!!!
I would like to make a story for the public to be aware and I am also going to start a petition in Amoras name to have this bi-law inplace that states that all pool owners should have their pool drained or at minimum have it covered if they are not living on the property.
I would like this Bi-Law to be named after little 3 year old Amora who lived to sing, dance and was so full of life.
Wanda also has a go fund me set up to help her move so that she does not have to wake up every morning and look at the pool that took her grand daughters life. So please help if you can.
